Working Title, Islington

London Screen Academy is a modern film production free school that provides thousands of sixth form places in Islington. We were appointed to undertake the first phase of enabling works in converting a historic disused 1920s radio and television factory into the school’s new campus. The scope included everything from full strip-out to the creating a new atrium within the building.

The team started the project with a full strip-out, safely removing all existing lead paint, and demolishing the existing roof structure, paving the way for the temporary works. By installing 80 tonnes of steel, removing the rear façade, and cutting and breaking internal concrete, we created a whole new atrium in this striking historic site.

Working across 5 floors with an estimated removal of 1,500 tn of hardcore, the construction of the atrium alone required 25,000 sq. ft. of slab repurposed from across the building.

We received high satisfaction for this project given that it will serve local, aspirational young people looking for a kick-start in their career, but also through the achievement of an excelled BREEAM rating.
